Black Gay Activist Marlon Riggs' 1989 semi-documentary film Tongues Untied seeks, in its authors words to, "shatter the nations brutalising silence on matters of sexual and racial difference." Tongues Untied celebrates Black men loving Black men as a revolutionary act. The film intercuts footage of Essex Hemphill reciting his poetry, Riggs telling the story of his growing up, scenes of men in social intercourse and dance, and various comic riffs, including a visit to the "Institute of Snap!thology," where men take lessons in how to snap their fingers proudly. Also we would like to encourage a continuation of the discussion "Hey Hey It's Blackface": A discussion night @ Red Rattler Friday November 13, so before the screening of the movie we'll be serving Tofu Burgers free or by donation and the space will be open for that discussion to take place.
