Little Fish Gallery

The Little Fish gallery is a political art project in its self, which we encourage you to come and be a part of simply by using the space. It is the gallery of what we are calling a Social Centre. It is but one thing that happens there. The gallery is orgainsed with the Black Rose Anarchist collective in the space.

What we have here is a space that rejects the separation of Art from politics and of art and politics from our daily lives.

It is an attack on Capitalism and our challenge that we push this rented space on the shopping strip of the ever-gentrifying Newtown/Enmore to be to the greatest extent a non-commercial praxis.

By using a minimal degree of facilitation we chip away at the culture of dependency that restrains us from simply sharing experience freely, we wish to fracture the Mercantile-relationship, bureaucracy, the art dealer, co-modification of art. (yes the gallery is a free exhibition space.)

We invite diversity, creativity, incendiary and dissident ideas, social variation, critical thinking, resistance, closet genius, bedroom scribblers, play, nonconforming, pretty, ugly, craft, differently able, projects/art/happenings....to happen.

--------------------------------------

Here are the basics:

LittleFish is an anti-commercial gallery, it doesn’t cost money to use the space. We do however pay rent to make this resource available and we appreciate contributions to the project that could take many forms; to participate in cleaning and maintaining the space, working on one of the projects such as the library/ printshop/ tool share/ computer lab/ peoples kitchen, running an event or skillshare or if you dont have the time or energy but appreciate what we are doing you could also make a financial contribution based on your ability or any income from the show.

This place is what we make it!

We can work out dates and the duration of the show taking into account other shows and events happening in the space. Opening nights are often on Wednesday nights at the same time as the peoples kitchen.
If you would like to have a launch on a night by itself we need to consult our neighbors; poppy at purple 22 and the upstairs residential units. Poppy does psychic readings and is generally happy for openings to take place as long as any music is not very loud and people do not sit on the steps or hang out in front of their door.
During a gallery launch we will run drinks and refreshments.

When Black Rose is open we will also open the gallery which is a thoroughfare to the library. During these times the people on shift will keep an eye on the gallery as part of the whole space however will primarily be working within the library. The best way to assure that nothing goes missing from your show is to be responsible for and run the gallery yourself, If you would like some help we can put the word out for you.

We are open:
monday 5-9pm
wednesday 4-9pm
saturday 1-5pm
every second saturday 5-9pm
and during other open events.

If you wish to open the gallery at other times you can. There is a door that can be closed to secure Black Rose and TuTu from the gallery space.

We will post out your invitation on our mailing list and web site- blackrosebooks.org .
If you would like to do fliers or posters it is up to you, we have a black and white rizo printer which is available to use by just covering costs. We can provide a skill share in its use.

You can also use our internet connection to put the word out, keep yourself occupied or as part of an installation.
